CITY TRAIL for the second time in Poznan and Szczecin
On the weekend of November 20-21, the autumn-winter CITY TRAIL series with Nationale-Nederlanden came – for the second time in the 2021/2022 edition – to Poznań and Szczecin. In the capital of Wielkopolska region we watched the excellent run of Sebastian Nowicki, who with small steps is approaching the improvement of the course record from 2014. In Szczecin, the struggle for victory was fought by the originator of CITY TRAIL – Piotr Książkiewicz, who on the last stretch of the demanding route on Lake Szmaragdowe succumbed to the best competitor of the October run –Adrian Wilk.
Poznan
On Saturday, November 20, 679 adults showed up on the 5-kilometer route at Lake Rusalka, while 194 children competed in CITY TRAIL Junior. The winners of the main race were – just like a month ago – Sebastian Nowicki and Oliwia Wawrzyniak.
Sebastian Nowicki Passed the finish line with a safe lead, in an excellent time of 14:49. This is one of the best results achieved in the nationwide history of the cycle and only 8 seconds worse than the 2014 Rusalka River route record of 14:41, held by Mateusz Maik. – I was running really loosely. I didn’t set out today to attack the record, but as it turns out, my disposition is good enough that I narrowly missed improving on that record time from a few years ago – Sebastian Nowicki said at the finish line.

Second place, with a time of 15:07, was won by Dariusz Boratyński, competing every day in the Wrocław version of CITY TRAIL. The third place was won by Łukasz Nowak, Who passed the finish line in a time of 15:21.
The winner of the competition was a 19-year-old ward of a well-known Poznan coach – Jan Grenda – Oliwia Wawrzyniak. In Saturday’s run Oliwia was cheered on by her parents, who support their talented daughter every step of the way.
– We can not imagine otherwise. Competitive running training is very demanding, and Oliwia is our only child, so we are involved in her development and passion as much as we can – said the company emphasizes Natasha Wawrzyniak – Oliwia’s mom. – As a child Oliwka kept a diary, in which she once wrote that she would like to be the fastest in the world. After several years, her daughter sought her passion, because she felt she had no talents. Having in mind Oliwia’s words from years ago, which she wrote down in her diary, my intuition prompted me to look for my daughter’s athletic talent. And so she ended up under the wings of a physical education teacher who steered her further – says Mom of the Polish junior women’s champion in cross-country and 5000m running.
Olivia Wawrzyniak’s score is 17:30. She was the second to finish the competition Alicja Radziej (19:09), and third place was won by Urszula Kafarska (19:24).

The next competition in Poznan is scheduled for December 18.
Szczecin
On Sunday, more than 550 participants – 427 adults and 125 children – showed up at Szczecin’s Emerald Lake. The winners of the main run were Adrian Wilk And making her debut in CITY TRAIL – Milena Sadowska.
In the men’s competition, a decisive advantage over the other competitors was developed by the already mentioned Adrian Wilk i Piotr Książkiewicz. Winner – Adrian Wilk – passed the finish line in a time of 17:26. – I assumed to myself that I would improve from run to run by 15 seconds. Today went 20 seconds faster than a month ago, so plan fulfilled – said at the finish line the best competitor of the Sunday competition.
Piotr Książkiewicz achieved a time of 17:31, and the third place was won by Andrzej Pańko, who passed the finish line in 18:01.

The winner of the competition was a 22-year-old woman – Milena Sadowska, with a result of 19:33. The second to finish the competition was Justyna Grzywaczewska (20:36) from the CITY TRAIL organizational team, and third place was won by Ewelina Kowalik (20:49).
For the 2021/2022 season, the organizers are continuing the campaign “Medics to the start”, in which medical professionals can compete in the cycle free of charge – to improve safety on the routes of the cross-country five. In Szczecin, 11 people signed up for the action – m.in. Slawomir Szymanski.
– Fortunately, so far I have not had the opportunity to provide assistance on the route to another runner and let’s hope it stays that way. The route in Szczecin is demanding and one can guess that there are people who, standing on the starting line for the first time, are not aware of what awaits them. Therefore, the presence of additional medics on the route, who, if necessary, give up their run to help another competitor, is certainly a good idea – said after the competition Slawomir Szymanski, taking part in CITY TRAIL for several years. – My current form is far from vital, but I’m working on it and I intend to improve in the coming months. Today’s result is much better than the assumptions, so I’m good thoughts – added.
The next competition in Szczecin is scheduled for December 19.
