In 1990, The North Face brand equipped an international team of explorers to cross Antarctica in a dog sled for the first time – it was a remarkable feat of over 6,000 kilometers. The goal was simple – to explore climate change and bring worldwide attention to the conservation of the continent.

The success of the 1990 expedition resulted in a decision by world leaders to protect Antarctica, while also becoming an important moment in the history of The North Face. It was also celebrated by previous acclaimed collaborations with Supreme and Goldwin, which brought expedition apparel to city streets.

Today, The North Face is relaunching its Trans-Antarctica collection to commemorate its past while looking to the future of exploration.

To celebrate the relaunch of the series, the brand is releasing a trailer for its latest film, The North Face Presents: Peace of History. The film features explorer, educator and leader of the 1990 International Trans-Antarctica Expedition, Will Steger, and touches on the themes of survival in harsh environments, international cooperation and planetary conservation. For the collection, the designers used original details from the 1990 International Trans-Antarctica Expedition and new elements, including recycled materials, DryVent™ fabrics and 700 cui goose down with Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certification.
