Dorota Szparaga completed her grand trek – 3000 km through the Alps

Dorota Szparaga has completed her grand trek – 3000 km through the Alps

“Today I did 58 km and 2,500 m uphill. The end made me a little tired due to poor trail marking (…). Now I need to cool down a bit and eat.” – Dorota Szparaga Checked into a hotel in Monaco, the finish line of her ultratrekking through the Alps, which was almost 3,000 km long. The hike lasted 94 days.

Before the expedition began, we wrote:

2600 km, 8 countries and a majestic panorama of the Alps. Via Alpina Red Trail is a trail leading from Trieste to Monaco. This summer, Dorota Szparaga, who hiked the Great Beskid Trail in 2020 in both directions (a total of 1,000 km), plans to complete it.

Dorota Szparaga had planned to complete the route in 80 days, but it turned out that the trail description and maps were not accurate and the distance extended by a total of about 400 km. Nevertheless, despite the extra kilometers, changeable weather and many adventures on the trail (we could follow Dorothy’s doings almost on the fly on her FB profile: Asparagus in its own sauce), Dorota reached Monaco yesterday, and thus completed her solo hike along the Via Alpina Red trail. Today Asparagus commented:

After 94 days on the Via Alpina, every day on your feet, the first morning without hastily folding the tent, checking the weather… It’s a little strange. During the passage I sometimes imagined the finish line. The last day was supposed to be calm, but it turned out like the whole Via Alpina – all the time in a hurry, mainly due to the poorly marked trail that gave me a hard time. I am slowly getting used to the idea that I have realized my dream.

We will try to talk with Dorota soon, in the meantime we have prepared a short photo report from the trek:
